What we do first thing in the morning can truly set us up for success. It may have a big impact on how we are going to feel during the day and how much we are going to achieve. So, it is important to follow consistent morning habits that will put you on the right path on your healthy living journey.

Having routines and systems that help you keep your life organized can keep you in a good mental space.

I want to share with you 8 morning habits for healthy living that will make you feel happier, healthier, and more productive throughout the day.

8 morning habits for healthy living

1 – Plan your day the night before

Take a little bit of time in the evening to prepare and think about what you want to achieve the following day.

Write your to-do list and try to schedule your most important tasks.

You can also choose your clothes for the day so that you can quickly get dressed in the morning.

This way, you’ll know exactly what you need to do. You will feel more relaxed and more confident about your day.

This simple tip can help you be a lot more productive. That is because you won’t spend time thinking about what you need to achieve that day.

Another great benefit is that you are less likely to experience decision fatigue in the morning or as your day goes by.

2 – Hydrate yourself

After a long night of sleep, our bodies are dehydrated.

I suggest that you drink a big glass of water as soon as you wake up. You can also make yourself some tea or other warm drink.

It is important to prioritize hydration because not drinking enough water can affect our energy levels, our metabolism, and how we feel.

Being dehydrated will make you feel tired and may cause headaches as well as mood fluctuations.

Another great benefit is that drinking water after waking up helps purify your colon and make your kidneys function better.

So drinking water is one of the most important morning habits you can implement for your health.

Hydrating yourself is one of the best morning habits for healthy living.

3 – Practice gratitude

Many studies have found that practicing gratitude is linked to increased levels of happiness.

By really thinking and writing about what you are thankful for, you are deeply acknowledging your blessings.

You will start noticing that those little things are what contribute the most to your well-being and fulfillment in life.

We tend to forget that these things are the most important in our lives.

For instance, I feel grateful that my family is safe and healthy.

Knowing that is priceless and it makes me profoundly happy.

By practicing gratitude daily, you focus more on the positive things in your life and give less power to negative thoughts. So, this one is one of my favorite morning habits for healthy living!

4 – Eat a healthy breakfast

This habit is something I cannot skip otherwise I might feel weak and sick for hours.

Eating a healthy breakfast will make you feel energized and ready to tackle your day.

If you consistently skip breakfast, you may quickly feel hungry and it can have an impact on your productivity.

Try eating some fresh fruits and wholesome products. Skip processed sugary food so that you don’t experience energy spikes during the day.

You can also prepare your breakfast the night before so that you can directly eat it in the morning. It will help you simplify your morning a lot.

5 – Don’t check your phone immediately

Many people use their phone as their alarm clock which means they are tempted to check their phone first thing in the morning.

They are likely to start scrolling through social media and it can put them in a negative headspace.

Social media can sometimes bring comparison and negativity which will affect your mood for the rest of the day.

By putting your phone away when you wake up, you’re choosing to have a more intentional morning.

It helps you start your morning slowly by focusing on healthier habits that will directly contribute to your well-being.

That’s a great way to apply digital minimalism to your mornings!

Waking up earlier and not checking your phone are great morning habits for healthy living.

6 – Wake up earlier

When we think about implementing morning habits for healthy living, we don’t necessarily think about this one, but I think we shouldn’t underestimate it.

No one likes to wake up feeling rushed and stressed because there isn’t enough time before leaving for work.

Waking up earlier than usual will allow you to wake up slowly. By doing so, you get the chance to do things for yourself and your health.

You can use some extra time to eat your breakfast, read a few pages of a book or journal.

Whether that is 15 minutes or an hour earlier, it can help you feel relaxed and stress-free.

Thanks to that extra time, you have the opportunity to implement some self-care rituals during your morning.

Of course, waking up earlier means you need to go to bed early as well. This is important not to forget because your sleep is a key element to having good health.

7 – Make your bed

Making your bed first thing in the morning will immediately make you feel organized and as if you’ve already achieved something today.

This is an easy way to get motivated and feel happier for the rest of the morning!

Also, making your bed after you get up gives you the impression that you have a tidier home. It may help you focus on what you want to do during the day.

In the evening, going to sleep to a made bed can remind you of how much you achieved during the day. It makes you feel more accomplished.

8 – Go for a walk outside

Going for a short walk outside in the morning will help you wake up. You will feel and breathe fresh air and may get some vitamin D at the same time.

This is also the perfect opportunity to get your body moving, which is important for your health.

If you don’t like exercising, going for a walk can be a great alternative for you because you will still make your body move.

I also think that going for a walk outside is a great way to practice self-care and to take time to slow down and unwind.

In case you can’t go outside, at least don’t forget to open your windows to freshen up the air in your home.

Those were 8 morning habits for healthy living that I think a lot of people can highly benefit from! They don’t require a lot of effort to implement in our daily routines.

By only incorporating a few of them into your mornings, you will feel a lot healthier and happier in the long run. They’ll also help you be more productive while achieving your goals.
