7 WAYS TO SIMPLIFY LIFE AND LIVE INTENTIONALLY

As humans, we tend to over complicate things that are happening in our lives. I have felt overwhelmed numerous times in the past and still do at times. But I’ve started taking some concrete actions to simplify my life and to live intentionally.

As a result, I have started to feel more and more relaxed in my day-to-day life.

Implementing those few tips will help you get your time back so that you can focus on your passions and what brings you happiness.

Here are 7 ways to simplify life and live intentionally!

7 ways to simplify life and live intentionally

1 – Declutter

Decluttering your home will tremendously help you simplify life and live intentionally.

By getting rid of your useless things, you will spend less time cleaning and organizing.

You will be clear-headed and feel as if a weight has been lifted from you. You will spend less time looking for the things you need and value.

As a whole, your house will feel relaxing when you come back from work in the evening.

It should be a place where you can unwind and do the things you love.

You shouldn’t feel stressed and bogged down because of all the things you see that create visual clutter.

Seeing your house with an excessive amount of stuff constantly reminds you of what you need to repair, maintain, and clean. For me, clutter is procrastination which I want to avoid.

On the other hand, when you have a clutter-free house, you feel light. It is easy for you to appreciate what you have and be thankful for them.

You won’t need to worry about what you are going to do with all of those things. Where you are going to put them? Do you have enough space to store them?

Those questions won’t cross your mind as much anymore. Not to mention that when you are moving houses, I cannot even describe how the whole process is easier and quicker.

There are so many benefits of minimalism and decluttering your life, you should try it!

2 – Stop impulse shopping

We live in consumerist societies in which constantly buying new things is the norm.

But by doing so, we are adding considerable amounts of things into our homes which can become overwhelming to manage.

As I said in the previous tip, you will need to maintain and take care of all of those extra things.

This can add to your stress levels.

If you go impulse shopping regularly, you will be wasting so much time and money in the long run.

But will this make you happy in a year, 5 years or 10 years? I don’t think shopping can add much to your long term happiness.

Of course, we sometimes need to buy things to live comfortably or to give gifts to people we love.

But try to be intentional with where your money is going and make well-thought purchasing decisions.

As a general rule, only buy what you need and what you know you love and will use for a long time.

If you find it difficult to eliminate impulsive shopping from your life, why not do a no-spend month or a no-buy year?

There are many Facebook groups where you can find like-minded people trying these experiments.

They may help and inspire you!

3 – Let go of negative people

Those people can be draining.

Of course, it is important to support people when they need help.

But if they constantly make you feel miserable, you must distance yourself from them.

You can tell them how you feel about the situation. But if they don’t seem to understand, maybe it is time for you to let this friendship go.

That is one way you can practice minimalism in your life.

It is hard but you need to do it for your mental health and own happiness!

This isn’t selfish, we need to do what is best for us to be able to give back to others later.

The same concept applies to online friendships. Unfollow people on social media who make you feel bad about yourself.

This will help you simplify life and live intentionally. Social media should be informative and helpful to keep in touch with people you love, not bring you down.

4 – Prioritize

Are your actions in line with your values and goals? For many people, their actions don’t align with their values and priorities.

If you’d like to spend more time with your family, try to eliminate other activities that don’t go in that direction. For instance, you can put your phone away every evening to spend time with your loved ones instead.

If your goal is to go to bed at 11 pm, don’t binge-watch your favorite show on Netflix until 2 am.

Reassess your to-do lists, your schedule, and your spending habits to see whether or not they align with your biggest priorities in life.

Eliminating useless tasks from your to-do list and decluttering your schedule will have a massive impact to help you live more intentionally.

You’ll save so much time doing so!

This also includes saying no to an event where you don’t want to go.

You don’t have to attend every party you are invited to. If you don’t want to go and prefer staying home, just politely decline the proposition.

5 – Be in the present and practice mindfulness

Try not to live in the past and don’t worry too much about the future.

I know it is easier said than done, but it is extremely important if you want to live more mindfully and intentionally.

Thinking about your past won’t change it, so why does it take up so much space in your head?

Also, we cannot predict every little thing that is going to happen in the future.

Instead of worrying, the best thing to do is to take consistent actions for it to be the best future possible.

Try to actively be in the present moment when you are doing something.

Single-tasking is a key element here because it makes you focus on one single thing.

This will also help you do the task even better when you are fully aware of what you are doing.

Stop multitasking and focus on one single action.

Practicing mindfulness also plays an important part to simplify your life. It helps you be more clear-minded, relax and slow down.

Try to implement it as often as you can, including every time you feel bored at home.

Be aware of the moment you are in right now, it is often simpler than you think. What can you see? What can you hear? How are you feeling?

I think these are important questions to ask ourselves daily to feel more aligned and mindful.

Being in the present and practicing mindfulness is a great way to simplify life and live intentionally.

6 – Have routines

Having routines will help you not waste time thinking about what you need to do. You know exactly what you should be doing and when.

You may decide to implement a morning routine, a work routine, an evening routine, a weekend routine…

All kinds of routine are possible, they are here to simplify our lives, to do things more efficiently.

For instance, you can create a weekend routine. Decide that Saturday is your cleaning and grocery shopping day, and Sunday is your relaxing and self-care day.

Try to be as specific as possible and write details about what actions you should take during those routines.

After a while, you will implement them without even thinking and realize that they help you stay organized and productive.

You will see that you are accomplishing way more things when you make a habit out of those routines.

This is one of my favorite ways to simplify life and live intentionally!

7 – Get your finances in order

I think that an important way to simplify our lives is to be in control of our finances.

Make a plan to decide how you will pay off your debt and when you need to achieve this.

This will motivate you to take concrete actions to either increase your income or decrease your spending.

Selling your unused things, stopping impulse shopping, and starting a side hustle will help you a lot along the way.

So try eliminating your debt as soon as possible. I know it is difficult to imagine doing it quickly when you have tens of thousands of dollars in debt.

But by making a plan, having goals, and actively working on paying it off, you will see that your efforts are paying.

It may take several years but it will be worth it in the end.

You will feel free to not owe any money anymore and to undertake exciting projects.

Maybe it is going on a vacation with your family or buying a new home.

Once you pay off your debt, try building an emergency fund of several months of expenses.

There are so many tips you can follow to save tons of money!

It will give you peace of mind. You won’t need to worry if an unexpected expense comes up.

When this goal is achieved, you can even start investing to start growing your wealth.

Once you get your finances in order, you’ll find your life is so much simplified!
