Keep your feet cozy and warm with these sustainable slippers!

No matter the season, you can always find me wearing slippers at home.

Wearing them keeps our feet cozy and comfy all year round, and they add a layer of warmth to protect our toes from cold floors.

If you too wear slippers regularly, you’ve probably noticed how quickly poor-quality ones wear out and need replacing.

Not only is this a waste of money, but it’s also very unsustainable.

If you’re looking for durable, eco-friendly house shoes, you’re in the right place!

In this blog post, I’ve rounded up 9 cozy, sustainable slippers that will keep your feet and the planet happy.

Whether you want to buy plush, warm wool slippers or lighter cotton ones, I share with you models for women, men, and kids.

Why should we buy sustainable slippers?

Nowadays, most slippers just aren’t made to last.

They’re made so poorly that they start to wear out after a year or so, sometimes even quicker.

It means that we need to throw them away and then repurchase a brand-new pair.

This contributes to the huge waste crisis we are facing all around the world.

Plus, new resources and materials have to be produced or extracted from the earth, which comes with its own environmental impact.

Not only that but most slippers are also made with unsustainable materials like polyester or other types of plastic.

They’re mass-produced in factories where workers aren’t provided with decent working conditions and wages.

Not to mention that they can contain harmful chemicals that are toxic to humans.

On the contrary, sustainable slippers are made with the planet, our health, and the workers’ well-being in mind.

Step into ultimate coziness with these sustainable slippers!

What to look for when shopping for sustainable slippers?

Opt for slippers made from eco-friendly materials such as hemp, organic cotton, responsibly sourced wool, natural rubber, Tencel, recycled polyester, or upcycled materials.

Leather slippers can also be a great option as they’re very durable and high-quality.

But ideally, buy models made from vegetable-tanned leather and leather that comes from Leather Working Group certified tanneries.

If you prefer wool, choose mulesing-free wool that is Responsible Wool Standard or ZQ-certified to guarantee animal welfare.

Sustainable slippers are also made without chemicals and toxic dyes.

They’re crafted using sustainable practices and are made to last

How the brand treats its employees and people working in the supply chain is another point to consider.

See if you can also find slippers or brands that received third-party certifications such as B Corp, Climate-Neutral, OEKO-TEX Standard 100, or Fair Trade.
