This post is all about eco-friendly, organic kitchen towels!

Kitchen towels are some of the most important kitchen essentials in most homes.

We use them to dry dishes, clean up spills, wipe counters, dry our hands, and more.

It’s fair to say that they go through a lot every day!

As a result, they can wear out and get badly stained pretty fast.

However, if it’s time for you to declutter your old kitchen towels and dishcloths, don’t go and buy the first ones you can get.

Those are probably made unsustainably using fabrics that aren’t good for you and the planet.

Instead, opt for ones made from sustainable, non-toxic fabrics like organic cotton!

In this article, I’ve rounded up 11 organic kitchen towels so you can elevate your kitchen and make it as healthy and eco-friendly as possible.

Why should you get organic kitchen towels?

Most conventional kitchen towels are either made from synthetic materials or conventional cotton.

Both options cause a number of environmental issues, which can be easily avoided.

Polyester kitchen towels aren’t biodegradable, release microplastics in the wash, and their fabric is derived from petroleum, one of the most polluting industries in the world.

They’re also processed and treated with toxic chemicals that aren’t good for our health.

Conventional cotton is also problematic.

It is grown using a lot of pesticides and herbicides, which are leaching into the soil and water supply.

Not only are they polluting the environment, but they’re also negatively impacting the health of cotton farmers.

Those fabrics are also often dyed with toxic dyes and can be very poorly made.

Thankfully, we can stay away from kitchen towels made with those unsustainable fabrics.

There are many organic kitchen towels made with our health and the planet in mind!

Organic models aren’t produced using pesticides and toxic chemicals.

Plus, they are often of better quality than their conventional counterparts.

What to look for when shopping for organic kitchen towels?

If you’re looking for organic kitchen towels, the best material you can choose is organic cotton.

You can also get great ones made of linen or hemp.

Even if they aren’t necessarily organic, these two fabrics are some of the most sustainable you can get.

They also dry fast and are resistant to mildew and mold growth, making them perfect for using in the kitchen!

No matter which fabric you choose, try to get kitchen towels colored with non-toxic dyes (or undyed if you can find them).

Make sure they’re made using ethical and sustainable practices.

For instance, the brand should have taken steps to save water and energy, reduce waste, cut chemical use, and so on.

Also, see if you can get organic kitchen towels certified by third-party certifications like GOTS or OEKO-TEX Standard 100.

Even better if the brand carries certifications such as B Corp, Fairtrade, or Climate-Neutral!

Finally, buy kitchen towels that are made to last so that you can use them for years to come.
