According to the Pareto principle, we use 20 % of the things we own, about 80 % of the time. When I discovered minimalism, this principle made sense to me. It made me realize that I didn’t need the majority of the things I owned and that becoming a minimalist had many benefits.

Ever since I’ve been decluttering my home life has changed in various ways.

Now, I truly believe that less is more.

I want less and I’m happy about it.

Minimalism is of course a very personal journey, but I think we can all benefit from incorporating some minimalist habits into our lives.

Here are 9 benefits of minimalism and why I think you should adopt a minimalist lifestyle.

9 benefits of minimalism: Why less is more

1. You have less clutter in your space

This is the one of most obvious benefits of minimalism.

When you have less superfluous stuff in your home, it is easier to maintain a tidy space.

A few years ago, I used to have so many things in my home.

It was hard for me to relax properly at the end of the day.

To minimize my belongings quickly and efficiently, I learned about different minimalist decluttering tips, which have helped me tremendously during the simplifying process.

Now, after years of decluttering, my home feels like a sanctuary where I feel calm and enjoy spending time.

Since everything that I own has a designated space, I can quickly find stuff, and it feels really good because it’s easier to tidy my home.

2. It is easier to maintain a clean home

When there is stuff everywhere, it is more difficult to clean your apartment.

While dusting, you need to move every little thing that is on your countertops.

Whereas when you practice minimalism, your space is so much easier to clean, which is life-changing!

There are fewer things to store away before vacuuming your house and less mess.

We often realize that we don’t need to be more organized, we just need less stuff.

If you are a minimalist, chances are that you have also simplified the number of cleaning supplies and products you have.

So, you experience less decision fatigue when it comes to deciding what you need for cleaning, which makes the process even easier.

One of the benefits of minimalism is that it is easier to maintain a clean home. Less is more.

3. You save more money

Minimalism made me save so much money over the years!

When you implement some minimalist habits into your life, you start to spend less money to buy things you don’t need.

You also become more conscious about the things you need and love, so you end up making fewer impulsive shopping decisions.

After decluttering, you might also sell a few belongings along the way, so you will even get some money back.

As a result, you will be able to pay off your debt quicker and start investing.

Knowing you have some extra cash also brings security in case of an emergency.

4. You are more environmentally conscious

As a minimalist, you probably don’t go shopping as often as before you started this lifestyle.

The great thing is that buying fewer things results in less waste.

You are not creating a demand for new things to be produced and fewer things end up in landfills.

When we focus on minimalism, we often realize we prefer buying higher-quality items.

As a result, they last longer and we don’t need to replace them regularly.

This helps us save money but also drastically reduces waste!

We also become aware of the downsides of over-consumption and the impact of our unused stuff.

By donating or selling the things we don’t use, we give stuff a new life, which is better for the planet.

There are numerous ways in which we can help the environment, and minimalism is one of them!

5. You have more time

Minimalists don’t spend hours hunting for the next bargain.

They spend less time at the mall or mindlessly scrolling online.

After waking up in the morning, they easily find an outfit for the day because they have a thoughtfully curated minimalist wardrobe.

Minimalists also try to reduce their commitments as much as possible.

Cleaning and organizing their home is not such a burden anymore, because they can do it a lot quicker.

Minimalism simplifies your life in a way that you gain a lot of time in your schedule, and you can spend it however you like.

Here again, less is more!

6. You experience less stress

A few years ago, I used to be a lot more stressed.

I felt that superfluous things were weighing on me, and in a way, pulling me down.

When I started living a simpler life, I realized that clutter was just deferred decision-making.

Minimalism helps us have a clearer mind, because less mental energy is focused on unpleasant things.

You don’t always think about all the chores you need to do, things you need to clean, repair, and maintain.

You feel more grateful for what you have and focus on the things you love, so you end up feeling less anxious.

One of the benefits of minimalism is that your home will feel relaxing and calm. Less is more.

7. You are more productive

This one is maybe an unexpected way in which less is more.

When you don’t have extra things cluttering up your space, it gets easier to focus, and you are less distracted.

It is less difficult to get to work, so you stop procrastinating so much and are more motivated.

You lose less energy because it is easier for you to clean and maintain your home organized.

You also have more clarity, so your productivity levels often increase as a result of minimalism.

8. You live more intentionally

Minimalism truly gives a feeling of freedom to follow your passion and do what brings you joy.

The reality is that clutter often holds us back.

After getting rid of it, you feel more intentional about the way you want to live your life.

You decide how you want to spend your time as well as your hard-earned money.

Minimalists worry less about keeping up with the Joneses, and it is easier for them to be free from the comparison game.

As a result, they generally do what they love and live life in an intentional way.

9. You are happier

One of the benefits of minimalism that I think we expect the least is that minimalist living brings happiness to a lot of us.

Minimalists tend to feel more gratitude for the little things in life.

They know that they can not only survive, but they can also thrive with the things they have.

They have enough, and they appreciate that.

In our societies, advertisement aims to show us what we “need” to be happy in life.

However, experiences are often much more valuable to minimalists compared to physical possessions.

They enjoy trivial little moments that contribute to their long-term happiness.

Spending precious time with their loved ones or taking a walk in nature truly adds to their fulfillment.

As a result, their happiness is often increased after starting their minimalist journey.
