9 ORGANIC COTTON DRESSES FOR WOMEN CHERISHING COMFORT & SUSTAINABLE FASHION
This blog post is all about organic cotton dresses for women!
Dresses are some of my favorite warm-weather staples in the spring and summer!
They’re super easy to wear as we simply need to throw them on and there’s no need to think about what to pair them with.
Unfortunately, with fast fashion brands’ explosive growth, it seems difficult to find good-quality pieces made with the environment in mind.
Almost everything nowadays is made poorly from unsustainable fabrics.
If you’re looking for durable, more eco-friendly pieces, you’re in the right place!
In this blog post, I’ve rounded up 9 organic cotton dresses for women cherishing comfort and sustainable fashion.
I’ve made sure to include all kinds of styles as well as options for every budget.

Why buy organic cotton dresses?
When we have a look at what most dresses from major brands are made of, we quickly realize that almost all of them are produced from unsustainable fabrics.
Most are made from conventional cotton or synthetic fabrics, like polyester.
This is far from ideal when we’re trying to make our wardrobe more sustainable!
Synthetic fabrics are derived from petroleum, which is one of the most polluting industries in the world and contributes to climate change.
Washing polyester also sheds countless microplastic particles into our waterways, and they then end up polluting the oceans and entering the food chain.
That’s not all!
Synthetic fabrics are also made with toxic chemicals that we do not want near our bodies, and they’re not biodegradable.
Not to mention that they’re often very poorly made and don’t last!
A final point to consider: synthetic fabrics aren’t breathable, making them unsuitable for warm-weather clothes like dresses.

Conventional cotton on the other hand is a natural fabric, so it’s very breathable.
It’s also better than synthetic materials for different reasons, but producing it comes with many other environmental impacts.
Cotton cultivation uses huge amounts of pesticides and synthetic fertilizers, which threatens the health and quality of our soil, water, and biodiversity.
The farmers are also heavily impacted and can suffer from serious health issues because of them.
Cotton is also incredibly water-intensive and producing a single garment requires thousands of liters of water!
On the contrary, organic cotton is grown without pesticides and synthetic fertilizers, and natural methods are used to control pests.
It means that buying organic cotton helps support healthy soils, clean water, and thriving ecosystems and biodiversity.
Farmers are also positively impacted because they’re not exposed to toxic chemicals.
Not only that, but they usually grow other crops alongside organic cotton, which helps them provide for their families.
Organic cotton clothing also tends to be of higher quality and brands selling it usually implement fair labor practices.
What to look for when shopping for organic cotton dresses?
When looking for organic dresses, try to focus on quality rather than quantity.
A durable dress can last for years, so it’s well worth the investment!
Also, to ensure the dress you’re buying is truly organic, you may want to get one certified by GOTS.
I also highly recommend dresses certified by OEKO-TEX, because these have been tested to be free of harmful chemicals.
Another thing to consider is to buy from brands that support ethical labor practices and sustainable manufacturing.
Shop from brands that pay their workers fair wages and provide them with good working conditions, and that have taken steps to save water and energy, or reduce waste.
If possible, see if you can also buy a dress made with eco-friendly, non-toxic dyes.
