Whether you’re spending all your days at home or you’re trying to rest after a long day outside, you might want to change into some comfortable clothes.

What better way to relax and cozy up than wearing your favorite loungewear, right?

Unfortunately, most lounge clothes are of bad quality and made from unsustainable fabrics.

Usually sold by a fast fashion brand, these pieces are not made to last and may contain harmful substances.

But thankfully, we can find better options on the market and I’ve rounded up them here for you!

In this article, I share with you 13 organic cotton loungewear brands for sustainable & non-toxic relaxation at home.

Why should you buy organic cotton loungewear?

Organic cotton is one of the best fabrics to look for when buying clothes.

Not only is this natural fabric highly breathable and soft, but it’s also sustainable and non-toxic.

Many clothes are made of synthetic fabrics, which are derived from petroleum, treated with toxic chemicals, and not biodegradable.

Those made of cotton are not great either!

Conventional cotton production pollutes our ecosystems because of the heavy use of pesticides.

It also impacts the health of farmers and local communities where cotton is grown.

On the contrary, organic cotton is grown without synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, making it a much healthier and more sustainable fabric.

What to look for when buying organic cotton loungewear?

Just because clothes are made of organic cotton doesn’t guarantee that they’re 100% free of harmful chemicals.

Indeed, they can be dyed with synthetic dyes or treated with other chemicals.

So the best thing we can do when buying organic cotton loungewear is to look for third-party certifications.

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the most reliable certification we should look for!

A certified product meets a certain number of social and environmental criteria.

For instance, it shouldn’t contain any toxic, hazardous substances.

Another great certification that guarantees the product is free of harmful chemicals is OEKO-TEX

Besides looking for certifications, make sure the loungewear is made to last and produced using sustainable practices.

The brand selling it should also be transparent and prioritize its workers’ well-being and pay fair wages.
