They look stressful and chaotic.

2. Only use things that make you happy

Once you’ve decluttered your home and rid yourself of unwanted things, you can now choose to only surround yourself with things that make you happy.

And use them to their full potential!

A great way to do that is to display your sentimental items on a shelf or console table.

Take your most treasured items out of their boxes and honor them by allowing them to serve their purpose: to remind you of a happy time or a person you loved.

Also, make sure to have your favorite hobby supplies readily available for you to use them.

Having a minimalist home doesn’t mean you can’t have hobbies!

Just try to keep them minimal and choose the best.

Keep them contained in a nice basket or beautiful box so they do not create a mess or visual clutter.

Use your favorite items every day to create a cozy minimalist home in which you feel good!

3. Use different textiles and textures around your home

One of the most impactful tips on how to make your home cozy is to use different textiles and textures around your space.

Add several throw pillows on your couch.

Put a cozy throw blanket on your bed.

Have soft towels and bathrobes readily available in the bathroom.

Have a beautiful tablecloth on your dining table.

You can also add texture by using rugs in your living areas.

These instantly make any home cozy!

When I moved into my apartment, I also noticed how big of a difference curtains make.

Before hanging them, the space felt cold and soulless.

But as soon as I hung them, my home felt cozy and airy almost immediately!

All these things you use to add texture are usually functional pieces that you get tons of use out of.

4. Let natural light in during the day and use lamps at night

During the day, avoid turning on artificial lighting unless you absolutely need to.

Not only will you save energy and money, but letting natural light in will make your home cozy and warm.

Who doesn’t like bright, sunny spaces?!

Plus, it will help the environment!

At night, instead of using your bright overhead lights, choose to play with different lamps.

Whether you prefer table or floor lamps, these will create a lovely atmosphere in your space.

But remember to opt for lightbulbs with a warm glow instead of those with a cold white hue.

5. Choose your decor with intention to create a cozy minimalist home

To make your home cozy and minimalist at the same time, be intentional about how many decorations you put out.

Decor pieces can add to the coziness of a space, but do not go overboard with them.

For instance, consider only having a maximum of five items displayed on a shelf.

Do not hang wall decor on every wall in every room.

Having fewer decorations means that you are more likely to enjoy and admire each one of them compared to if you had many.

As mentioned earlier, you can use some sentimental pieces as decor.

I also love using functional items like mirrors or baskets to elevate my space.

I avoid mass-produced art and prefer having pieces that tell a story or reflect my personality.

Handmade decorations, such as a painting you’ve made yourself or a lovely pottery piece a local artist handcrafted, are the best!

6. Add some plants

Some of my favorite decor items are plants.

I find they make the space feel alive and create a sense of calm and serenity, which is ideal to have a cozy atmosphere.

Plus, they purify the air, which is a win-win situation!

If you’re not into plants, you might prefer to add some dried or fresh flowers in a vase on your dining table instead.

They will become a nice centerpiece that everyone will be able to enjoy while eating.

Plants are the best decorations to add to create a cozy minimalist home!

7. Choose furniture and items made with natural materials

One of the best ways to make your minimalist home cozy is to use natural materials as much as you can.

These contribute to creating a warm and inviting ambiance!

Try to limit the number of items made of plastic as those do not look cozy at all, besides being very unsustainable

Some examples of natural materials are wood, wicker, palm, bamboo, or clay.

You can use them in various items around your home from furniture pieces to baskets to vases

For your sheets, prefer linen and organic cotton options!

They will contribute to the fresh, natural vibe of your home.

8. Create an inviting reading nook

If you’re a bookworm, this one is for you.

What’s cozier than reading a good book in an inviting reading nook you’ve created for yourself?

Find a place in your home where you can put a comfy chair and get lost in your favorite stories.

Add a small bookshelf to display your all-time favorite books.

Keep your collection minimalist by only keeping the books you know you’ll read (or reread) and declutter the rest.

I also recommend organizing your books by size and color to make everything look more cohesive.

9. Don’t be afraid of colors and patterns

Having a minimalist home doesn’t mean you can only have white walls and neutral-colored items.

To make your home cozy, don’t be afraid to add some colors and patterns.

I particularly love using light, pastel colors around my space.

They are easy on the eyes and can create a cozy vibe, especially if you choose warmer, earthy tones.

But to keep things minimalist, do not use too many colors.

Try to stick to three that work well together and follow the 60-30-10 rule.

According to it, the main color you choose to have in your room should represent 60% of it.

The secondary color, 30%, and the accent one, 10%.

This interior design rule will help give your space a balanced and harmonious look!

Don't be afraid to use colors and patterns in your house.

10. Stock up on tea, coffee, and hot cocoa

Can we honestly say we have a cozy minimalist home if we can’t make ourselves and our guests some warm beverages whenever we want?

Avoid having too much, but always make sure you have at least a nice tea, good coffee, or delicious hot cocoa on hand.

That way, you’ll be able to enjoy and sip a comforting cuppa in a beautiful ceramic mug whenever you need to cozy up and warm up.

11. Reduce visual clutter to make your home cozy and minimalist

It’s very important to clear all the clutter in your home if you want to make your home cozy and minimalist.

But this is particularly true with visual clutter and anything that bothers our eyes when looking at our space.

For instance, many people love decorations with words and phrases written on them.

It’s perfectly fine to have them and they can add coziness to your home.

However, try to avoid having too many of them so your eyes aren’t constantly reading something when you’re at home.

Let them rest.

It’s the same issue with logos and labels on products.

Having too many of them is visually distracting and doesn’t help us create a cozy minimalist home.
